Onward!

All's well. Check it out!

The Latest

For the past several years I have enjoyed being a full-time SAHM (that’s “stay-at-home-mom” for those not savvy with the text-speak.) This choice has brought years of joy to our family and it is one that I would willingly make again, though I have NO intention of bringing anymore babies into this house! However, there are a few simple pleasures one begins to take for granted when your job allows for excessive pajama-wearing and the constant availability of Velveeta Shells n Cheese. One such blessing has not been lost on me this year… Ahhh, summer vacation!
You may remember from my update last September that I, somewhat accidentally, began working again. I took a part-time position teaching a half-day prekinder class at Yorktown Christian Academy. It has been a great year and I have a renewed appreciation for the Breaks (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring, and Summer.) Though I was thrown into my teaching career two years earlier than planned, and only two weeks before the beginning of the school year, God provided all the grace I needed to have a successful year via a very supportive administrative staff, great mentors, and my precious husband (who, brace yourselves Ladies, made the girls’ lunches, my breakfast and morning coffee, and folded most of the laundry this past year.) The experience was so fantastic that, after much prayer, I plan to accept a new contract for full-time teaching at YCA this year, and all three of the girls will be coming with me as students. The adjustment to work was challenging, but still easier than expected. Preston really did do a great deal to balance home responsibilities that previous fell on me alone. It really is true that when you love what you do it doesn’t feel like work. Sure, I had difficult days, and enjoyed my weekends, but I had no idea how well prek teaching would fit my abilities and interests. Years of scrapbooking, blogging, card-making, and photo editing were the perfect prerequisites! Even better, in 2011 we’re beginning a new year-round school schedule. Though it sounds daunting, it really allows for longer breaks throughout the year. I can’t wait to start the next school year with a new class and my three girls right down the hall.
Despite the fabulously crummy state of our economy, Preston and Larry have kept Doctronx going strong. It has been a long, slow road to growth, but their IT company is successful and thriving. You know you’re blessed when your biggest complaint about work is that you’re TOO busy! Actually, the greatest challenge Doctronx has faced in the past year has not been work related at all. Since September, when he underwent surgery to remove a kidney, Larry has fought various battles with the medical challenges he’s faced due to cancerous spots found on his liver and lungs. This has been a trying, and tiring, time for Larry and Preston, but they are both strong and driven to overcome. Larry is doing very well and we try to surround him with support (which often translates as nagging!) Our family can’t show God enough thanks for keeping us moving forward through adversity with the power of Christ. Besides, Pres always can unwind with our favorite new toy…
Yes, I’m referring to our modest bay boat that we had recently purchased prior to my last update in September. We’ve had our fair share of the troubles well known to every boat owner, but not a moment spent on our boat is wasted, even if that time is just making a repair while the boat sits parked in front of our house. After we first bought it, we spent a great deal of time launching at Snoopy’s on the Island and cruising around fishing the Laguna Madre, about 20 minutes from our neighborhood. However, we have recently discovered a love for the Lake Life. We frequently make the 45 minute drive up to Lake Corpus Christi and drop in to cruise, swim, and tow or surf. Sometimes these trips aren’t even made on our own boat! Our family friends Nathan and Kim have a fantastic ski boat that we have been invited to share. Our girls and their kiddos Lauren and Nevin have a blast while we adults chillax on the boat.
Yes, this past year has been a good un. We did suffer one loss. Preston’s sister Tamarra, her husband Rick, and our niece Hannah and nephew Caleb moved 7 hours away to Ft. Worth, TX. They previously lived two streets over from us, so this was not an easy change to take. However, all of our kiddos have been busy making new friends at school, and Tam and Rick have been back for visits. We hope to swap oldest kids for our church VBS programs this summer.
However, I won’t complain too much. We also had a precious addition to our Corpus family this year. My cousin Dawn Berry and her husband Jason welcomed a sweet little girl earlier this year. Addison Nicole was born February 18, 2011. She is the cutest little thing and is already rolling over and working on her sitting-up skills. We’re all enamored with her (when we can pry her away from her Grandma DD!) On the heels of Addison’s birth was the marriage of my other cousin Chelsea. Chels and her handsome new husband Rafael tied the knot at an amazingly beautiful venue NW of Austin on April 30. Chelsea was stunning and it was a wonderful wedding/family reunion!
After a few very difficult years, we have been mercifully blessed with an excellent 2011. Praise be to God! We wish you and yours such blessings as well!

Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge HIM, and HE will make your paths straight.

Sincerely,

Kelly
